about ariw and AuthorClaim

Introduction

One of the main functions of ARIW is to help with the AuthorClaim author registration system. It allows authors to claim authorship of works described in participating bibliographic databases.

From ARIW to AuthorClaim

The ARIW dataset is exported every night to AuthorClaim. There it is read into the AuthorClaim database.
Authors who register with AuthorClaim can claim an affiliation with an institution registered in the ARIW dataset. If an author’s institution can not be found the author can suggest a new institution record. That request is forwarded to the ARIW maintainers, for them to consider that a new institution be created. There are published procedures on how to deal with AuthorClaim propopsals.

From AuthorClaim to ARIW

When an author claims to be affiliated with an institution, ARIW will create a link from the institution to the profile of the author.
An example may be useful to illustrate this. Thomas Krichel claims to be affiliation with two institutions,
Thus the ARIW listing for New York and the ARIW listing for the Russian Federation have links to d7ywz.html and hk9gw.html that contain a list of people who have claimed to work there.
Sure, such links are few and far between at this time, but we have to start somewhere.
